Abbott cuts child care assistance to local parents

July 11, 2014

The Abbott Government currently has draft laws in the Federal Parliament, which will cut the Child Care Benefit, which is helping more than 4,800 local families across Fowler.

Over 45,000 families across Western Sydney currently receive the Child Care Benefit. This is a means-tested payment to low and middle income families, which families will lose, affecting many earning as little as $42,000 a year.

"This cut directly hits local families, including many parents who will be forced to leave their jobs and stay at home to look after their children," Mr Hayes said.

"I will work with my parliamentary colleagues to try to stop this cut. We will oppose the Liberal Government’s cruel Federal Budget cuts to local low and middle income parents," Mr Hayes further added.

The Child Care Benefit helps with the cost of child care, such as, long, family or occasional day care, outside school hour care and vacation care.
