Chris Hayes backs CCTV upgrades to keep local town centres safe

May 31, 2013

Federal Member for Fowler Chris Hayes is backing a request for Federal funding to roll-out more security cameras to combat crime in local town centres and on our streets.

The grant application by Fairfield City Council seeks Federal funding to roll out approximately 30 more CCTV cameras across the area.

The application also includes the Cabramatta Chamber of Commerce’s request for funding to implement live monitoring of CCTV cameras in Cabramatta and Canley Vale CBDs.

Mr Hayes strongly supports this grant application which has also been endorsed by the NSW Police Cabramatta Local Area Command and Canley Vale Chamber of Commerce.

"Federal Government has made $40 million available under the National Crime Prevention Fund to target crime hotspots", Mr Hayes said.

"CCTV cameras deter crime, allow for timely detection and response from the police and increase community confidence and safety. The extra cameras being rolled out will help to keep our community safe.

"Live monitoring of CCTV cameras would ensure Cabramatta and Canley Vale town centres and our local community at large, are better protected against crime", Mr Hayes added.

Grants under the National Crime Prevention Fund are being funded by assets seized from criminals under the Proceeds of Crime Fund.
