International Women’s Day

March 10, 2016

"Discrimination against women and their daughters, as well as issues of domestic violence, should never, ever be tolerated by our community – or any community," said Fowler MP Chris Hayes, who was invited to celebrate International Women’s Day at Bonnyrigg on Monday.

The event, organised by the Spanish and Latin American Association (NSW SLASA) and Community First Step, included music, Zumba, cultural foods, and a variety of music.

This year’s theme was about achieving gender equality to address the discrimination that still exists amongst certain countries in the world. Mr Hayes said it was a case of basic fairness.

"We should never devalue the contribution women make in a modern society, particularly in a multicultural community such as ours," Mr Hayes said.

"Today is a great opportunity to acknowledge the contribution women make in our community, in particular in our families."
