Get the latest news about Chris Hayes MP and the Fowler Electorate

April 23, 2019

A Shorten Labor Government will deliver a fairer Long Stay Parent visa so that Australian families of migrant backgrounds can reunite with their loved ones.

Chris Hayes said, “I have the honour of representing one of the most multicultural electorates in the country, with 76% of people whose parents were born overseas.”

“Many families in my community who have parents and grandparents overseas have voiced their concerns about the current barriers to reuniting with family members under the Liberal Government.”

The Morrison Liberal Government is forcing families to choose between which parents or in-laws are able to visit, not both. Their visas are limited, expensive, and some have waited for many years.

In contrast, Labor’s fairer Long Stay Parent visa will be more affordable for families as they will allow parents and in-laws to reunite with their families and let all grandparents spend quality time with their grandkids.
