Local Sporting Champions (1)

August 19, 2016

Does your child excel in a particular field of sport, would $500 help with the cost of their uniform, travel, accommodation or equipment? Then you may be entitled to receive funding from the Local Sporting Champions Grant.

Fowler MP, Chris Hayes understands the costs associated with sport and is encouraging young sporting champions to apply for this grant.

"It’s great to see local families encouraging their children to take part in sport, but it takes time and money and I know how this can stretch the family budget."

"Recently I was pleased to advise six young people that they were successful grant recipients and I would like to congratulate them on their achievements."

"They should be proud of their sporting achievements and I wish them well in their endeavours," Chris Hayes said.

A number of young people received grants during Round 1, including:

• Sophia Dagher, Villawood

• Tatiana Smith, Edensor Park

• Natalija Pavicevic, Liverpool

Grants of $500 are available and the Local Sporting Champions Grants is being offered to 12 – 18 year olds who have been selected to attend sporting championships.

The $500 grant can go towards the cost of travel, accommodation, uniforms or equipment and is designed to support young people participating in state, national and international level as either an athlete, coach or official.

"There are thirty six individual grants available in my electorate and Round 2 is now open."

"Excellence in any field should be rewarded and I urge all young sportspeople to apply and take advantage of these grants," Chris Hayes said.
