Lucy Reggio, a Bonnyrigg Heights resident last week received the highly commended award at the University of Western Sydney Women of the West Awards.

This award recognises outstanding women who live and work in Western Sydney and make a positive contribution to individuals, families and the local community.

Chris Hayes MP, Federal Member for Fowler, nominated Mrs Reggio and attended the awards ceremony with her.

"I have known Lucy for many years and have seen her generosity, passion and drive in helping families that live with disabilities, Mr Hayes said".

"Lucy is one of the hardest working and most dedicated individuals in our local community".

"She is the founder and president of Special Needs Ability Program Providers, a community development project officer at Mission Australia, an energetic volunteer at Les Powell Special School all the while being a doting mother to two boys, Mr Hayes added".

"It was a surprise and an honour to simply be nominated by a man such as Mr Hayes. To then receive the highly commended award, when there were 17 other incredibly deserving people, was very humbling, Mrs Reggio said".

"Thanks to Mr Hayes I had the opportunity to meet the Prime Minister, which was another great honour and privileged"

"I would like to thank Mr Hayes for nominating me for this very important community award and I look forward to working with him to advance the cause of disabilities in our community", Mrs Reggio added.
