Lunar New Year 2018

February 13, 2018

Lunar New Year is an important cultural event in our community and each year I am privileged to take part in the many festivities.

This year marks the Year of the Dog. The Dog is traditionally associated with people who are courageous, clever, lively and loyal.

Lunar New Year is also a time for all of us to reflect the success of our multicultural society and the exceptional contributions that our Chinese and Asian communities have made to our great nation.

It is a time to spend with family and friends, a time of personal reflection, as well as a time to celebrate.

The lion dancing, the fantastic food and fireworks, were all highlights for local families who came together to experience this magnificent showcase of Asian culture.

There are many people to acknowledge but I would like to make special mention of James Chan and Harry Hunt.  James and Harry are local residents and prominent businessmen in the Liverpool region and both are recipients of the Order of Australia.  Both do a lot to promote Chinese culture and goodwill.

We are very fortunate to have many dedicated, community minded people who are proud to share their culture and we in turn are indeed a richer nation.

I feel privileged to be part of this colourful, vibrant, diverse community and wish all residents of Asian origin a harmonious and prosperous year.
