Miller TAFE Host Manufacturing Excellence Expo

Chris Hayes MP, Federal Member for Fowler, participated in the opening of the South West Sydney Institute TAFE, Miller College Manufacturing Excellence Expo.

The expo showcased local manufacturing as well as the TAFE delivered skills and training which support the manufacturing industry in South Western Sydney.

"Manufacturing remains one of our most important industries. It employs nearly 70,000 workers in South West Sydney and 10 000 residents of my electorate", Mr Hayes said.

Mr Hayes spoke of the important role that TAFE ploys in ensuring local manufacturing businesses have properly skilled workforce to ensure growth and success into the future.

"TAFE provides real pathways to employment, ensuring we have the properly skilled workforce to fill the jobs in the manufacturing industry.

"This is why the Federal Government is investing $452 million into vocational education and training across New South Wales in 2012-13 including six new Trade Training Centres in our local area alone", Mr Hayes added.

TAFE SWSi offers a range of courses in manufacturing skills ranging from Certificate in Engineering to an Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and the students studying these courses were able to showcase their skills to the prospective local employers.
