Remembering and Honouring our Fallen Diggers (1)

November 12, 2012

Chris Hayes MP, Federal Member for Fowler, attended the Remembrance Day Ceremony at the Regional War Memorial in Bigge Park.

The moving Ceremony was organised by the City of Liverpool RSL Sub Branch and the Returned and Service’s League of Australia.

"It is very important we honour our fallen soldiers. Their sacrifice was and remains to be great and must remain etched in the Australian spirit".

"The Remembrance Day tradition started in honour of more than 60 000 Australians who died during the First World War".

"This year we paid tribute to more than 102 000 Australians who made the ultimate sacrifice in various wars and conflicts, including 39 in Afghanistan, to ensure the safety of our nation", Mr Hayes said.

"As a nation, it is also important to take care of the families of the fallen as well as the soldiers who returned carrying physical as well as emotion and mental scars".

"The memories of all those who took up arms in service of our nation should be honoured with dignity and respect as they were during the Regional War Memorial Commemorative Service".
