Schools Funding Slashed

May 11, 2016

Your children may not be feeling the effects right now, but they will shortly, as $511 million is cut from local schools in the electorates of Fowler and Werriwa as part of the Turnbull Government’s budget policy cuts.

This has left our local Labor representatives, Fowler MP, Chris Hayes, and Candidate for Werriwa, Anne Stanley, hopping mad.

Over the next 10 years, $241 million will be cut from schools in the Fowler electorate, and $270 million cut from Werriwa.

"On average, schools in my electorate will each lose up to $5 million over the next 10 years."

"Education is vital, our children are our future and it is so important to invest in their education."

"A great man, Nelson Mandela, once said that education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world and Labor recognises this and in my electorate alone, we will invest an additional $52 million in 2018/2019," Chris Hayes said.

Labor’s Your Child. Our Future plan will mean more individualised support and attention for students, better early literacy and numeracy intervention programs, and better professional development for teachers.

Your Child. Our Future will benefit every child in Australia. In Years 2018/2019, $52 million will be invested in the electorate of Fowler, and $46 million in the electorate of Werriwa.

Labor’s candidate for Werriwa, Anne Stanley said, "it makes no sense that this staggering amount of money is being cut from our schools".

"Our children deserve better and in 2018/2019, Labor is committed to investing an additional $46 million in schools in the Werriwa electorate alone."

"The Turnbull has got it wrong by cutting funding from every school – it’s just not right," Anne Stanley said.

In NSW alone, Labor will invest $1.4 billion under their Your Child. Our Future plan.
