Sisters Honour Their Father

February 19, 2016

Sisters, Pat Hall and Glenda Cartwright, attended a morning tea with Federal Member for Fowler, Chris Hayes MP, to honour their late father, Patrick Dewberry, who served in both the Second World War and the British Commonwealth Occupation Force (Japan).

Patrick Dewberry was 19 years old when he enlisted in the Australian Army in 1942. He served in the Royal Australian Engineers with two tours of active service in New Guinea and was involved in the Battle of Shaggy Ridge. He later embarked for Japan where he served with the British Commonwealth Occupation Forces.

"He would never talk about the horrors of war, but he would tell a story if it was funny and had nothing to do with fighting. He loved his time in Japan," Pat Hall relayed to Chris.

Pat and Glenda were presented with framed Saluting their Service certificates.

"These certificates are a small token of our nation’s appreciation and gratitude for those who served our country."

"We will always be eternally grateful for their service," Chris Hayes said.

"If you or a family member are eligible for a certificate, please contact my office on telephone 9726 3988 or email me at [email protected] and I will be happy to forward a form to you," Chris Hayes said.
