The Holiday Season - 2018

November 15, 2018

It is not just children that look forward to Christmas and New Year.  Maybe the long awaited holiday and the New Year resolutions that may, or may not, be kept.

Christmas is a special time, particularly for those of the Christian faith.  Most other religions acknowledge the significance of this period - a time for families, a period of excitement and expectation for children and above all, a time for giving.

But it is also a time to spare a thought for those less fortunate who may not have family and friends around them, or for those that are living rough.  For many it can be a time of feeling vulnerable and lonely.

The holiday season is also a time to remember that as Australians, we love the water and flock to the beach and our backyard pools.  Please be mindful of the dangers associated with swimming.

Always check pool gates, never leave children unsupervised, and swim between the flags at the beach. The Royal Life Saving Society Australia is a great resource to associate yourself with water safety.  Visit www.royallifesaving.com.au

The holiday season is always a time when blood donations are urgently needed.  One blood donation can save up to three lives and you never know when it might be you or a loved one that needs that life-saving donation.  Visit Australian Red Cross www.redcross.org.au for more information.

Bernadette and I, as well as my staff, wish you all a peaceful Christmas, and a happy and safe New Year.

Please take extra care on our roads these holidays.
