Two local intersections to be fixed under Black Spot Program

May 30, 2013

Chris Hayes MP, Member for Fowler, welcomed the announcement that two local intersections will soon be fixed as part of the Federal Government Black Spot Program.

 Intersection of Bareena Street and Fairview Road at Canley Vale will see a roundabout installed and

 Intersection of Cabramatta Road West and Hemphill Avenue at Cabramatta West will have a new raised island and an upgraded intersection from Give Way to Stop.

Federal Government has invested $120,000 to fix these two most recent black spots while $1.2 million has been allocated to fix eleven black spots across the Fowler electorate since 2007.

"These two spots have been identified and targeted because of their high record of casualty crashes", Mr Hayes said.

"Fixing these two trouble spots means we prevent further crashes and reduce the social and economic cost of road trauma".

"These projects will greatly improve the safety on our local roads", Mr Hayes added.

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Anthony Albanese MP, said a recent evaluation of the program found that fatal and casualty crashes are reduced at treated sites by 30% saving one life per year for every 84 projects.
